iCon gone!

Steve Jobs is dead. And this is the type who are mourning him most loudly.

Until the next poster boy comes along... that goes without saying. Then it would be 'Steve who?'

Who wants to bet they'd still be talking about him a year down the line? Five years? Ten?

I can't help but say that the title is marvelous and perfect. I wonder whether they're going to start a new line of gizmos with that name....

You're right of course. It's that vapid lot leaving apples with a bite taken out of it on the steps of the offices and apple stores.

No they won't remember. But most people's memories are incredibly short and the world being the way it is - that's what is valued, isn't it? - Nothing and nobody really needs to be remembered.

The whole gush-gush is weird, silly, comic and no matter how dispassionate I try to be - the compliments of mountainous and monumental proportions that are coming out for Steve Jobs are getting to me. I don't have anything against him but the mindless stupidity of the world is alarming.

I'm glad though that I don't have a TV at home, don't meet people, and live in a very secluded house. I remember too well the incessant gushing and mass hysteria over Princess Diana when she died...I wonder how many of those gushers remember when she died. I remember feeling annoyed that she died but I had my own reasons for being annoyed.

And it's a case of that other thing as well that you mentioned in your other blog. The journalists are going ga-ga...I won't comment on the following because I'll write a mile, it is just plain insane.

Shall write more on Pupu's blog and your other blog. And yes, may Steve Jobs rest in peace but that's all I'll say.

You've got it right, Shilpi. My irritation and contempt is directed at the fandom of Steve Jobs rather than at Steve himself. In fact, I have considerable admiration for the man himself, insofar as one can admire a businessman - he knew well how to part millions of fools out of their money with hardly original, basically trivial and grossly overpriced gizmos! It's the adulation of the ignorant and mindless that makes me puke. Worst of all are the Indians among them - quite oblivious of the fact that the man himself was unconcerned at best and disdainful at worst about this country, as you can check out here:

Dear Sir,

I agree that people's memories are short-lived. I am reminded of a line from the movie Gladiator:
Lucilla: The mob is fickle, brother; he'll be forgotten in a month....'
(about Maximus' meteoric rise to fame).

I have commented on this issue on Pupu's blog.

Sincerely
Nishant.
