Book Fair? no thanks

Someone sent me this link to tell me why she doesn't like to visit the Calcutta Book Fair any more. I worked there for eight successive years, and I don't, either, for virtually the same reasons...

Dear Sir,

Thanks for sharing the link. It is hilarious; at the same time, it conveys a sad truth. We are making a mess of so many good things. Here is a link to another article (it might be a bit unrelated) that expresses the laments of a renowned Bengali author-
http://www.anandabazar.com/archive/1140201/1nibon1.html .

With regards,
Saikat.

Dear Sir,
The link really sums up the truth behind the book fair.I heard a man telling his son(who must have been ten or eleven years old),"Shirshendu Mukhopadhay porte hobe na baba,Anondomela te majhe majhe comics beroy to onar golper, segulo poro.Borong cholo ekta geometry boi dekhi".A girl told her mother "Byomkesh please kino na ma,bhishon mota boi ta!".In a Penguin book stall, two young men were discussing about books. One of them said to the other,"Jim Corbet er boi porechis? "His friend replied,"Amar kache ekta boi ache to onar,The White Tiger ".And some others were there simply to show off names of books, the kind that irritates me the most.I mean who is interested to know what they have or have not read.
Thankyou Sir for sharing the link.
With regards,
Sunandini

Saikat, Sunandini, thank you for commenting. I sometimes feel sad for this blog of mine: its status seems permanently fixed as that of poor cousin to the other one!
