In a cartoon titled 'Gaurav' in The Telegraph today, the smart young teenage hero is thrilled to see that The History Channel on TV has dubbed Dr. Martin Luther King jr's famous speech, not into Hindi but Indian English, so that the great man seems to be saying "I'm having a dream that one of the days, my baba-logs, you know, will not be judged by skin and all, yeah? But by their good character only..."
For the benefit of the mystified, the relevant line in the original speech was I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

Sir, dubbing has become a very contagious disease among the service providers of the TV channels. I was very sad after I found that Discovery, Animal Planet and National Geographic channels are being shown in Hindi and other regional languages.
Very recently, one of the three above mentioned channels has started showing in Bengali also. I do not know what these service providers are thinking. There might be an opinion that people who do not understand English will take to watching these channels if they are shown in Hindi or other regional languages. But alas! Can people who are incapable of thinking beyond "Golmaal 3" and "Action Replay" kind of stuff really enjoy the beauty of the Universe that is shown in these channels?
In trying to do good, these service providers have done harm to the handful who were really interested in watching these channels. They are no more watched, at least I do not watch these channels any more!
