Lovely!

Almost a decade ago a pretty young thing walked into my drawing room for admission to my tuition, and said, 'Good evening, Sir, I'm Lovely'. Feeling mischievous, I replied, 'How nice! and what's your name?' which struck her speechless for a moment (and who knows, she might have been a mite affronted, too). Of late I have been hearing of a 'Lovely University' somewhere up Punjab way, and I am told it is not short of students...

Grinning widely at this one, Suvro da...

Am reminded of a slightly different story (quite the opposite in a way). Don't know whether it's appropriate for this blog/post but I'll go ahead. A very lovely acquaintance went into her class one hot and muggy summer afternoon (some of the classrooms get quite hot for some unknown reason), and after some minutes of teaching and sweating, she said, "I'm hot." The students looked back at her, and some of her male students replied with a rather wide, "Yes, you are." She blushed and repeated, "No, I mean I'm hot." They looked back at her, and said, "And we absolutely agree." Everyone broke out laughing after some minutes and they did all agree that it was rather uncomfortably hot inside the classroom.

As for the Lovely University - why is it never short of students, I wonder. Trust the Punjabis though to come up with a university called "Lovely".
Gurgling still.
Thanks for the post.

Lovely's parents must have been deeply influenced by the english language and its little nuances, to have chosen a pun for their daughter's name :)

I cannot think of a house of education as being "lovely" though... somehow it sounds too frivolous for something like education.
